How to diagnose fibromyalgia?

Diagnosing fibromyalgia can be a complex puzzle, as there is no single definitive test for this condition. Instead, our dedicated team at the CRPS and Neuropathic Pain Center of America utilizes a comprehensive approach that combines symptoms, physical examinations, and medical history to piece together a clearer understanding of fibromyalgia. We understand the importance of carefully considering each element to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

Throughout the diagnostic process, our expert healthcare providers pay close attention to the location and duration of pain, as fibromyalgia typically manifests as widespread discomfort lasting for three months or longer. We also rule out other potential health issues that could explain the symptoms and take into account any memory difficulties that may be present.

A critical component in diagnosing fibromyalgia is identifying tender points, specific sites in the body where pain is experienced. These tender points are typically found in six or more areas, persisting for at least three months. They can occur in various regions such as the head and neck, upper chest and back, outside of elbows, lower back, buttocks, and inner side of knees.

While the diagnostic journey may present challenges, the CRPS and Neuropathic Pain Center of America is dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of fibromyalgia and providing you with the answers and support you need.
